چکیده

One suggestion for determining the properties of QCD at finite temperatures and densities is to carry out lattice simulations with an imaginary chemical potential whereby no sign problem arises, and to convert the results to real physical observables only afterwards. We test the practical feasibility of such an approach for a particular class of physical observables, spatial correlation lengths in the quark-gluon plasma phase. Simulations with imaginary chemical potential followed by analytic continuation are compared with simulations with real chemical potential, which are possible by using a dimensionally reduced effective action for hot QCD (in practice we consider QCD with two massless quark flavours). We find that for imaginary chemical potential the system undergoes a phase transition at |µ/T | ≈ π/3, and thus observables are analytic only in a limited range. However, utilising this range, relevant information can be obtained for the real chemical potential case.

Real and Imaginary Chemical Potential in 2-color Qcd

In this paper we study the finite temperature SU(2) gauge theory with staggered fermions for non-zero imaginary and real chemical potential. The method of analytical continuation of Monte Carlo results from imaginary to real chemical potential is tested by comparison with simulations performed directly for real chemical potential. We discuss the applicability of the method in the different regi...

The 3-state Potts model as a heavy quark finite density laboratory

The 3-D Z(3) Potts model is a model for finite temperature QCD with heavy quarks. The chemical potential in QCD becomes an external magnetic field in the Potts model. Following Alford et al.[3], we revisit this mapping, and determine the phase diagram for an arbitrary chemical potential, real or imaginary. Analytic continuation of the phase transition line between real and imaginary chemical po...

Lattice QCD at finite density: imaginary chemical potential

I describe the results for the critical line and the thermodynamics of different phases of QCD which have been obtained by lattice simulations with an imaginary chemical potential. I review motivations and merits of the different strategies – Taylor expansion, Fourier analysis and Pade’ approximants – for analytic continuation from imaginary to real chemical potential. I consider phenomenologic...

Static correlation lengths in QCD at high temperature and finite density

A brief review is given of the sign problem in finite density lattice QCD and various attempts to overcome it. To date there is still no solution to this problem which would work for realistic QCD. The main focus then is on the deconfined phase, where QCD can be described by a dimensionally reduced effective action. After summarizing derivation and validity of the effective theory, it is demons...
